I grew up learning to play the cello from a young age at the infamous Preucil School of Music in Iowa City, IA.  Music was an important and joyful part of my childhood life and it remains true today!

I received a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance at UNC Chapel Hill where I served as principle of the cello section in the UNC Symphony.  I received a Master’s degree at UMass Amherst as a member of the UMass Graduate String Quartet under Astrid Schween, the cellist of the Juilliard String Quartet.  At UMass Amherst I was a member of the Euridice Early Music Ensemble and was the teaching assistant to the music history department.

I’ve studied with internationally recognized recording artist, Nancy Green and had the opportunity to study at summer music festivals such as the Eastern Music Festival, Interlochen Arts Academy and Meadowmount School of Music.

I’ve performed professionally at the Five College New Music Festival in Amherst, MA and premiered new works at the New Music series at Interlochen Summer Academy.  I actively perform with the cello in non-classical genres. I compose and perform in a rock band, Gown and have recorded cello on projects for Chris Stamey, SOON, Between the Buried and Me and others.

I received my pedagogy training with the celebrated Dr. Tanya Carey, the former president of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. I think the Suzuki method is an amazing way to approach music instruction, but I also think it is important to focus on how individual students learn, so I am opened to teaching in a traditional method or supplementing the Suzuki method.

I have taught at the Interlochen Arts Summer Program as a teaching assistant and chamber coach.  Apart from private cello lessons, I am the director of Girls Rock NC summer camps and I currently teach general music and cello instruction at Kidznotes, an El Sistema based music for social change program that provides free music education to kids in the triangle.
